Donated Mobile Clinic and Food Delivery Truck in Honduras Will Care for Thousands

“To those who don’t believe in miracles, look at this one — this is a miracle from the Lord for all the children of San Pedro Sula.”

On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made two significant donations to the Municipality of San Pedro Sula and Feed the Hungry in Honduras

Access to Specialized Health Care

The Church donated a 40-foot-long mobile clinic, which has two examination rooms, a blood collection area and basic laboratory equipment. The clinic will provide pediatric medical care in 20 neighborhoods and communities, serving around 23,000 children and 2,000 nursing mothers each year.

“Today, what brings us together is the delivery of this mobile clinic, which will mean a lot for the children and families here in the area,” Elder Patricio M. Giuffra, a member of the Central America Area Presidency said.

San Pedro Sula mayor, Roberto Contreras, expressed gratitude for this significant donation, as it will benefit thousands of children.

“There is gratitude in our hearts towards The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and there is also gratitude to our Lord Jesus Christ,” Mayor Contreras said. “To those who don’t believe in miracles, look at this one — this is a miracle from the Lord for all the children of San Pedro Sula.”

Meals for Thousands of Honduran Children

More than 100,000 children will receive a plate of food three times a week, thanks to the Church’s donation of a truck to transport food throughout the country. This donation was made through the foundation Feed the Hungry.

The 700 dining halls nationwide in 15 departments (states or provinces), including the ethnic communities of Mosquitia, Pech and Tawahkas, will provide children and young people with necessary nutrition and growth opportunities.

These donations are part of a global initiative of the Church of Jesus Christ through its humanitarian aid program. They are made possible thanks to the Church's millions of members around the world, whose voluntary donations make these efforts feasible, following the example of Jesus Christ in clothing the naked, feeding the hungry, visiting the sick and helping those in need.
