The Montpelier Temple was announced on April 3, 2022, by Church President Russell M. Nelson. In addition to the Montpelier temple, Idaho has eight other temples in operation, under construction or announced in Boise, Burley, Idaho Falls, Meridian, Pocatello, Rexburg (Rexburg Idaho Temple and Rexburg Idaho North Temple) and Twin Falls.

There are more than 15,000 Latter-day Saints in the proposed temple district. Each temple is considered a house of the Lord where Jesus Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed through baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. In the temple, Church members learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to follow Jesus Christ and serve their fellow man.
