Plans to construct the temple were first announced 1 April 1981. Church leaders broke ground 17 March 1984, and President Gordon B. Hinckley, then a counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Stockholm Sweden Temple 2 July 1985. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Sweden, Norway and parts of Finland.
The 16,366-square-foot temple’s exterior is masonry and a copper roof.
Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
