We #HearHim When We Act on Spiritual Promptings, Elder Rasband Says

In a new #HearHim video and blog article, Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said that we can hear God by acting on the promptings we receive while reading the holy scriptures.

“The ways that I hear the Spirit of the Lord best in my life is by reading the scriptures and following promptings of the Holy Ghost,” he said.

Elder Rasband shared his experience getting his mission call as a 19-year-old. Disappointed at being called to serve in the eastern states of the U.S. rather than Germany, where he longed to serve, he turned to the scriptures. “My attitude changed,” he said. “I knew by revelation through this scripture that that’s where the Lord wanted me to go,” he said.

The video was shared on Elder Rasband’s social media accounts and accompanies a blog article by Elder Rasband on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

The video and blog are part of the “How I Hear Him” series, in which leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints share thoughts and experiences about how Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ speak to us.

In the blog article, Elder Rasband said he also learned to hear the voice of the Lord from experiences he had while serving as mission president and through purposeful direction and being responsive to promptings.

“For me, the voice of the Spirit is a feeling that is manifest in a direction,” he said. “The Prophet Joseph Smith taught that if you will listen to the first promptings, you will get it right nine times out of 10. I learned early in my life that if you follow those first promptings, you are generally going to be directed by the Holy Ghost.”
