Temples — September 22, 2014
In Your Own Words is a regular sampling of online articles, blog posts and social media that represent some of the current conversations about Mormonism. The posts in this series do not necessarily represent the views of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, nor are they meant to be a comprehensive summary of the online conversations about the Church. The intent is to highlight social media content from individuals that will help journalists and the public better understand Mormonism.
Ogden Utah Temple Rededication
The Ogden Utah Temple was rededicated in three sessions on Sunday, 21 September. Originally dedicated in 1972, the Ogden Utah Temple was closed for extensive renovation for the past three years. Many Latter-day Saints expressed excitement this weekend about having the temple back in service.
“What a great day for the #OgdenTemple re-dedication. I’m so grateful for temples. They help me think of what matters most.” @vogtdavid01
“The Ogden Utah Temple was rededicated today. It was awesome to be able to participate via broadcast in the wonderful dedicatory services. Cannot wait to take a trip up there and enjoy this beautiful House of The Lord again!” @amylyn.schmidt
The dedication was broadcast to Latter-day Saint meetinghouses throughout Utah and in parts of Wyoming and Idaho.
“I am so grateful the Ogden Temple Rededication was broadcasted to my Stake center! It was a truly amazing experience that I will not forget <3 #OgdenTempleRededication #Mormon #LDS” @hallpayton
Ogden Utah Temple Cultural Celebration
In addition to the rededication services over the weekend, about 16,000 youth from northern Utah and parts of Wyoming participated in two cultural celebrations featuring music and dance on Saturday, 20 September. Many youth and youth leaders posted to social media about their participation in the cultural celebration, themed “Shine the Light.”
“So happy I was able to see the youth participate in the Ogden cultural event tonight. They were amazing. #ogdentemple” @annraneelowe
