News Release

Additional Salt Lake Temple Open House Tour Reservations Available October 1

These releases expand opportunities to participate in the Salt Lake Temple Celebration (April 5–October 1, 2027), either in person or virtually

Following the strong response to the opening of Salt Lake Temple Open House Tour reservations, additional tickets are available today, October 1, at 6 p.m. MDT. This reservation release is part of the planned approach to accommodate as many visitors as possible.

More tickets mean more opportunities for people around the world to enter this house of the Lord and learn about Jesus Christ. The first wave of 1 million reservations was claimed in less than 24 hours.

Visitors are encouraged to visit TempleSquare.org, download the Temple Square app (available for Apple and Android) and subscribe to the Temple Square email list for updates about the Salt Lake Temple Celebration, including reservation opportunities on September 15 and October 1 and additional ways to participate in person and online.

More than simply reserving a time to visit, Church leaders hope guests will use the opportunity to learn about Jesus Christ and the purpose of temples.

“This is more than touring a building — a remarkable building,” Primary General President Rosemary K. Chibota said of the opportunity to walk through the temple during the September 1 celebration theme announcement. “It is about coming closer to Jesus Christ. It is about feeling God’s love for us and remembering that all of us are beloved children of our Heavenly Father.”

The Salt Lake Temple Celebration will mark the reopening of the Church’s flagship temple and invite millions of guests to experience the renewed house of the Lord and learn more about the purpose of temples.

For Latter-day Saints, temples are the most sacred places of worship and differ from the thousands of meetinghouses used for Sunday worship services around the world.

Anyone may visit a Latter-day Saint meetinghouse and attend services to worship God in remembrance of the sacrifice and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Temples, however, are sacred houses of the Lord where members of the Church make promises with God and participate in ordinances centered on Jesus Christ and His gospel. After a temple is dedicated, entrance is reserved for Church members who are prepared to participate in those sacred ordinances.

Latter-day Saints worship in temples to feel God’s love and peace, learn more about His plan for His children, make sacred covenants and participate in ordinances that, through the power of Jesus Christ, unite families for eternity.

The theme of the Salt Lake Temple Celebration is “Rejoice in Christ.” This significant six-month event welcomes everyone, whether they participate in person on Temple Square or from elsewhere in the world through virtual experiences. The celebration runs from April 5 through October 1, 2027, and will include the open house tour, exhibits, performances, films, service opportunities and other experiences centered on the Savior of the world.

For those who cannot make it to Salt Lake City, the celebration will offer opportunities to participate virtually, including digital resources and a virtual tour of the temple, allowing people around the world to join the celebration from home.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who chairs the Salt Lake Temple Executive Committee, has emphasized that the celebration is for everyone.

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a global church with a universal message of Jesus Christ in which we rejoice,” he said. “We invite you to come and see and love Jesus Christ and the people who come here.”
