On Sunday, July 5, 2026, The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States with a special performance of “Music & the Spoken Word” with guest narrator Andy Reid, head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.
In conjunction with the nationwide celebration, the Choir has released a special 30-minute episode of its “Music & the Spoken Word: Behind the Scenes” podcast featuring a conversation between host Derrick Porter and Reid about faith, family, football, how he balances the competing demands of life, and how he sees the “good in everybody.”
In the conversation about the importance of faith, Reid says he prays and reads his scriptures because “there’s no greater coach than Christ.”
Distractions are something every family faces, Reid says, adding that prioritization, trust, and work can strengthen family bonds. “If you’re at home with your family, focus in on that,” he says. “[If] you’re in a marriage, focus in on that. And then create energy.”
When it comes to the intersection of faith and football, Reid wants people to know, “you can have faith and still be tough.”
