Bahía Blanca Argentina Temple Opens Its Doors to the Public

The Bahía Blanca Argentina Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints opened its doors to the public on Monday, October 13, 2025. The significant day was marked by a news conference attended by government officials, religious leaders, and members of the media.

During the news conference, Bahía Blanca Mayor Federico Susbielles expressed his gratitude for the decision to build the temple in the city and highlighted its spiritual significance. 

The mayor noted that the opening comes at a time when “faith, love for others, and Christian values are essential for the community.” He also said that beyond its architectural beauty, “the most important thing about the temple is the peace felt inside and the message of hope it conveys.”

Elder Joaquín E. Costa, President of the Church’s South America South Area; Elder Mathias Held from the Church’s Temple Department; and Sister Andrea Muñoz Spannaus of the Young Women General Presidency participated in media day and guided tours of the temple’s interior for media representatives and special guests.

Elder Held explained that the Bahía Blanca Temple will be the 211th operating house of the Lord in the world and the fifth in Argentina. He said that “temples are unique places where people can strengthen their faith and family bonds,” and invited those present to “allow the temple to speak to their hearts.”

Elder Costa expressed gratitude for the participation of local authorities in this event. He highlighted that the temple is “the house of the Savior Jesus Christ.” He invited all residents of Bahía Blanca to tour it, assuring that those who visit “will feel peace and be strengthened in facing the challenges around them.”

“In the midst of life’s difficult moments, the temple is a refuge where we can feel the peace that comes from God,” added Sister Spannaus.

As an invitation to the community to come and tour the temple, she said, “Come experience the love the Savior has for each person.”

Free guided tours will be open to the public from Thursday, October 16, through November 1, excluding Sundays, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays. 

Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple on Sunday, November 23, 2025.

About the Bahía Blanca Temple

The late President Russell M. Nelson announced this temple during the April 2020 general conference. Argentina is home to more than 490,000 Latter-day Saints in over 730 congregations. Upon its dedication, this will be the Church’s fifth operating house of the Lord in Argentina. Other temples announced, under construction, or in operation in Argentina are located in Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires City Center, Córdoba, Rosario, Salta, and Mendoza.

Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ are different from meetinghouses or chapels where members gather for Sunday worship services. A temple is considered a house of the Lord, where the teachings of Jesus Christ are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other sacred promises that unite families for eternity.
