The Beehive House, the Lion House, and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building Will Undergo Renovations Beginning in 2023

The Beehive House and the Lion House — important historic buildings in Salt Lake City for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the state of Utah — will undergo restoration work in 2023. The Beehive House will close April 8, 2023. The Lion House has been closed since 2020.

This project will address structural deficiencies, preservation of aging finishes, replacement of outdated mechanical systems, and updating the guest experience.

In addition, renovations to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building will begin in early 2023 to upgrade electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems. The renovations will include improved guest and event spaces, additional elevators, and upgraded restaurants. The building and the restaurants and event spaces will be closed to the public while undergoing these renovations.

All three buildings are expected to reopen in 2025.
