The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints created the 117th stake in Peru on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

The new Cañete Peru Stake was organized at a special conference in Cañete, a province in southern Lima, presided over by Elder Rafael E. Pino, First Counselor in the Church's South America Northwest Area Presidency, and Elder Oswaldo Soto Guzmán, an Area Seventy

Members of the new stake presidency are Luis H. Centeno Angulo, president; James Núñez Barría, first counselor; and Gregory José Duque Vásquez, second counselor.,

The new stake is comprised of the Cañete, Imperial, Nuevo Imperial, Mala and Quilmaná wards.

The creation of a stake reflects the commitment of the members of the Church and allows the Church to strengthen local leadership, service to others and the experience of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, thus contributing to the spiritual and community progress of the region.
