Church to Review Plaza Resolution Proposal

Presiding Bishop H. David Burton said that a new proposal announced today by Salt Lake City Mayor Ross C. "Rocky" Anderson "represents a potentially workable solution" to the controversy involving the new Church Plaza. He assured Mayor Anderson and the city council that he will take the proposal to Church leaders "to study carefully and return with a timely response."

Bishop Burton emphasized that "this proposal needs to be presented to the public in such a way that the issues and the proposed solutions are crystal clear." He went on to "urge the fullest possible public discussion."

In his brief remarks, Bishop Burton reminded everyone that "there are still details to be worked out that will require keen minds and a generous spirit on all sides" before the proposal becomes reality, making the plaza "what the Church and the representatives of the people of Salt Lake City always intended it to be —; a place of tranquility in the heart of the city."
