The For the Strength of Youth (FSY) sessions held on Friday, January 23, in Cusco, Peru, incorporated the new FamilyHero initiative, an innovative program that invites youth to become actively and meaningfully involved in family history and temple work.

The experience was part of the South America Northwest Area FSY sessions and featured Young Men General President Timothy L. Farnes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, along with local leaders, family history consultants and youth participants.

FamilyHero is a new and exclusive initiative of the South America Northwest Area, created to present temple and family history work in a practical, dynamic and spiritually meaningful way for the rising generation.

Through FamilyHero, youth completed three guided “missions” designed to strengthen their identity and spiritual connection with their ancestors. Each activity was supported by trained family history consultants who provided guidance throughout the FSY sessions.

Youth highlighted the value of feeling like active participants in this work by using gospel tools to help their ancestors. They noted that the activities promoted teamwork, friendship, and the strengthening of shared principles.

Playful dynamics, challenges, and games surprised participants, who appreciated the program’s educational and creative approach. For many, FamilyHero was a unique experience that increased their enthusiasm and commitment.

By completing missions, the youth recorded information in their family trees using FamilySearch, connecting new names to the temple, and receiving recognition.
