Groundbreaking Date Announced for the Piura Peru Temple

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the groundbreaking date for the Piura Peru Temple.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026. Elder Steven C. Barlow, a member of the South America Northwest Area Presidency, will preside at the event.

Peru is home to nearly 668,000 Latter-day Saints, who meet in 809 congregations.

In addition to the temple in Piura, which was announced in October 2023, Peru has 10 temples announced, under construction or in operation. Dedicated temples include the Arequipa Peru Temple, Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple, Lima Peru Temple and Trujillo Peru Temple.

Temples have been announced or are underway in Chiclayo, Chorrillos, Cusco, Huancayo and Iquitos.

Latter-day Saints worship in temples to feel God’s love and peace, to learn more about God’s plan for His children and the gospel of Jesus Christ, to make promises with God and with one’s husband or wife and to participate in sacred ordinances that allow families to be united in this life and the next.
