Latter-day Saints Around the World: Country Newsroom Websites, December 30, 2019

Newsroom features stories from its more than 80 international Newsroom websites as well as from those in the United States to share what members and leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are doing to better serve their communities throughout the world

Honduras: They Donate to Save Others
The Church’s Helping Hands program, in partnership with the Honduran Red Cross, conducted a recent blood drive to respond immediately to the needs of the hospitals in the south central area of Honduras.

With encouragement and a smile on their faces, Latter-day Saints arrived to donate blood like they have been doing for 10 years. These efforts show commitment and love to the recipients.

USA: Latter-day Saints and Baptists Clean Graves of Slaves
In November, Latter-day Saint missionaries (young men and young women as well as senior couples) came to the aid of their Baptist neighbors. Missionaries responded to an invitation from the Antioch Baptist Church in Fayette County, Georgia, inviting volunteers to help clean their cemetery and mark graves of slaves that had been hidden and unmarked for 100 years.

This long-forgotten section of the cemetery was re-discovered in 1998, when a member of Antioch Baptist Church was clearing the overgrown shrubs and uncovered a tombstone

Switzerland: Childrens’ Eyes Light Up
Latter-day Saints in Schwamendingen, Switzerland, gathered and wrapped 1,000 Christmas gifts to help people in need. They also packed chocolate, biscuits and other sweets.

Two companies, Julius Baer and Petit Suisse, joined with the members of the Church to help.

USA: Interfaith Members Build Bridges of Understanding
It’s Sunday morning in Columbia, Maryland, and Mass is just about to begin in one of the area’s largest Catholic congregations. On the front row of the chapel sits a Quaker, a Seventh-day Adventist, a Latter-day Saint, a Methodist and two members of the Jewish faith.

Scenes like this occur every month thanks to the Howard County Faith Community Tour Group. This interfaith group attends worship services of different faiths to build bridges of understanding.

Panama: Light the World Celebration
Latter-day Saints are participating in the Church’s Christmas campaign to “Illuminate the World: One-to-One.” Several events have been held throughout December to celebrate the holy birth in Bethlehem.

Each day brings a new way to reflect the life of Jesus Christ in music of the season, in service to others and in relationships with family, friends and neighbors.

Puerto Rico: Delivering Love Through Heart Pillows
Members of the Church’s worldwide women’s organization, the Relief Society in Puerto Rico, made heart-shaped pillows for patients suffering from cancer. The pillows help patients rest while they are receiving cancer therapy.

The women make the pillows and hope the patients feel their love and support, in addition to bringing them a message of hope, faith and the love of God.
