Latter-day Saints Around the World: July 2025 

Children clean shelter in Peru, and projects in the Marshall Islands seek to improve safety and sustainability

Newsroom features stories from its dozens of websites worldwide to show what members and leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are doing to serve their communities. Today, we feature news from Chile, El Salvador, the Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines and Togo.  

Philippines: Improving Women’s Health Services  

Crucial medical equipment to assist with cervical cancer prevention was donated to local government units in Bulacan, Philippines, during a handover ceremony with the Church of Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 10.  

“It was a remarkable milestone and breakthrough event,” said Dr. Edwin Tecson, chief provincial health officer. “This is the first time that the Provincial Health Office will collaborate with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are truly grateful for the opportunity you have given to us for the province of Bulacan.”

Peru: Youth Spread Christlike Love Through Service  

Local Latter-day Saints, including children, participated in a day of service at the San Vincente de Paúl shelter in Puerto Eten, Peru, on Saturday, June 28. The volunteers cleaned various areas of the shelter, including the dining room, kitchen, hallways, green areas, main courtyard and rest areas.  

Shelter staff expressed gratitude for their service and stated that the residents appreciated the company and support.  

The Marshall Islands: Helping a Nation Become Sustainable

The Church of Jesus Christ is stepping in to help residents of the Marshall Islands by providing a new shipping container to store emergency supplies and a vehicle to transport relief items, and other donated items. Funds have also been used to build and maintain aeroponic tower gardens and solar power systems.  

“What sets the Church apart is their genuine commitment to listening — truly listening — to our local voices and responding to our real, expressed needs without imposing outside agendas,” said Dr. Natalie Nimmer, commissioner of education for the Marshall Islands. “The support reflects deep respect for our communities and our priorities. This is partnership at its best — rooted in mutual respect, cultural sensitivity and shared hope for a brighter future for every Marshallese child.”

Paraguay: Donating Wheelchairs and Mobility Aids  

On Thursday, May 8, the Church teamed up with three local organizations to deliver 31 wheelchairs and 12 other mobility aids to beneficiaries in Concepción, Paraguay.  

“The Lord knows our needs,” Higinio Benítez, a beneficiary, said. “Our Heavenly Father blesses us in ways we don’t expect. When we are in communion with Him, blessings like this come into our lives.”  

The donation is just one of 100 humanitarian actions the Church is carrying out as part of its 100-year anniversary of the preaching of the gospel in South America. To read about other service opportunities, click here.  

Papua New Guinea: New School Bathroom Facilities Built  

Students and faculty of Wardstrip Demonstration Primary School in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, gathered for a celebration on Thursday, June 19, following a donation of two new bathroom facilities from the Church of Jesus Christ.  

“We are based on a scriptural foundation to love God and our neighbors,” said Port Moresby Stake President Andrew Kau. “Our children will be blessed by this project, and so we are applying that scriptural foundation in our service here today for the sake of our children, our families and our community.”  

El Salvador: Celebrating Large Blood Donation  

On Monday, June 30, the Church of Jesus Christ was named the “Largest Altruistic Blood Donor” by the government of the Republic of El Salvador and the National Network of Blood Banks of the Ministry of Health.

“As a church, year after year, you have donated life, you have donated hope, and you have put the gospel of Jesus Christ into practice by donating your blood to others,” said Dr. Ricardo Alfredo Santamaría, national coordinator of the Blood Bank network.  

“Thank you to all of you nationwide who seek to emulate Christ’s way of life, and, in every effort, with every donation, have demonstrated your love and service to others,” said Elder Hugo Panameño, a regional leader of the Church.

Togo: New Dental and Medical Equipment for Hospital

Several months after Latter-day Saints performed a service activity at the Tsévié Regional Hospital Center, the Church donated medical and dental equipment to the facility, the third largest in the maritime region of Togo.  

Church and hospital leaders gathered on Tuesday, June 17, to celebrate the occasion.

Chile: Improving Quality of Life 

Two automated external defibrillators, a front-loading washer and dryer, a refrigerator and freezer, 35 mattresses, and 35 sets of bedding were given to the National Cancer Corporation in Antofagasta on Monday, May 26.

“This is a strong and united community,” said Nelson Moya, a local Church leader. “If we can provide a little relief, it makes us happy.”

Peru: Free Health Day Organized  

More than 100 residents of the Lima district of Ate-Vitarte participated in a health event organized by a local congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 21. Thanks to a collaboration with the Rotary Club El Rímac and Pulso Salud, community members were offered free consultations in general medicine, ophthalmology and psychology, as well as lab tests.
