Mexican Government Officials Learn About the Church’s Outreach Programs for Youth

Members of the General Sunday School and Young Men organizations met with government and civic leaders to discuss the well-being of youth

During a visit to Mexico, Mark L. Pace, Sunday School General President, and Ahmad Corbitt, First Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency, met with government officials and private sector organizations to talk about the welfare of youth.

In an event called Conversation for the Welfare of Youth in Mexico, the representatives of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints exchanged ideas and experiences with Jorge Lee, deputy director general of the Religious Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior; Guillermo Rafael Santiago Rodríguez, general director of the Mexican Youth Institute (IMJUVE); and Salvador Villalobos, executive president of the Communication Council. Representatives for Senator Maria Celeste Sánchez also participated, including her advisor on issues of prevention of violence against women.

During the meeting, the group discussed programs and initiatives aimed at contributing to the development of youth in Mexico as they looked for common ground and future opportunities for collaboration.

The General Officers explained some of the programs the Church provides to strengthen youth, such as children and youth programs, JustServe, and educational offerings like BYU–Pathway Worldwide. All these programs were viewed favorably by the Mexican officials, who agreed on the importance of nurturing and preparing youth to make decisions that will define the future of the country and the world.
