Washington: Residents Escape Wildfires
Many Okanogan Valley, Washington, residents were forced out of their homes in July because of wildfires.
The fires burned more than 400 square miles and destroyed 500 structures, including 325 homes.

Brazil: Uruguay River Floods Homes, Leaving Thousands Homeless
Hundreds of Mormon Helping Hands volunteers joined with government and community organizations to help people who have become homeless due to flooding.
Over the last two months, Latter-day Saints in Porto Alegre packed food baskets for many people in need. The food was donated by the government’s civil defense and the German Consulate Office.

Ecuador: Midwives Learn Neonatal Resuscitation
Midwives, obstetricians and nurses in Guaranda, Ecuador, received professional training from Dr. Frank Bentley in neonatal resuscitation.
Dr. Bentley and his wife are missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and travel throughout the world instructing in clinics.
A group of more than 50 midwives, dressed in their native clothes, traveled three hours by bus to attend the training conducted by the medical team.

India: Church Honored for Humanitarian Contributions
World humanitarian leaders meeting in New Delhi, India, recently recognized the Church for the help it has given to the people in India.
Other worldwide leaders in humanitarian contributions were also honored at the National Seminar on Nationalism, Humanism and Spiritualism.

Kenya: Church Partners in Vaccination Campaign
The Church has partnered with the government of Kenya to make sure children are vaccinated against Rotavirus.

The World Health Organization says Rotavirus is a diarrheal infection responsible for an estimated 750,000 global infant deaths annually, with most of these coming from third world countries.

El Salvador: Self-Sufficiency Centers Open
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has opened a fourth self-sufficiency center in Santa Ana, El Salvador.
The centers provide people help finding jobs and guidance on how to become self-employed.

Pennsylvania: Mormon Chapel Donated to Kane, Pennsylvania, Township
The Kane Historic Preservation Society, located in the middle of Pennsylvania, has taken ownership of the Kane Memorial Chapel from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The building had been in serious disrepair before the Church purchased the chapel and renovated it in 1970 to be a house of worship for Latter-day Saints.
Citizens of Kane recently celebrated the 150th anniversary of the town’s founding by Thomas L. Kane, and the Church donated the chapel during a local event. Read about the celebration on the Mormon Newsroom website.
