Pacific: Cyclone-Damaged School Is Repaired in Time for Classes
Cyclone Evan blew through Samoa last December decimating homes, schools and other community structures.
With little hope of receiving government funding soon to fix a school in the village of Safaatoa, the local chiefs decided they had to raise money. The village mayor went to the three local churches for help in organizing rebuilding projects to make sure the school was ready for the students. The three participating faiths were the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Assembly of God.

Canada: Latter-day Saints Help Canadian City Recover
Mormon Helping Hands volunteers in Alberta, Canada, have logged more than 30,000 hours cleaning up after the flooding in High River three weeks ago.

In many homes water flooded the basements from floor to ceiling; furniture, clothing, carpeting and appliances had to be removed. More than 5,800 Latter-day Saints, including missionaries, along with the community’s United Church, stayed busy helping residents recover.
One tearful woman said, “We’re so grateful for the help from the Mormons. Everyone in town is talking about what you are doing.”

Pacific: Medical Supplies Delivered to the Marshall Islands
LDS Charities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the crew of the USS Pearl Harbor delivered 26 boxes of medical and hygiene supplies to the Majuro Hospital in the Marshall Islands in July.
In addition to the medical supplies, doctors and nurses from Australia, New Zealand and the United States donated their time and skills for free clinics, health fairs and immunizations.

Peru: Church Hosts Medical Campaign
Peruvian residents received free health screening and information in July courtesy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Church had the support of the mayor of the municipality of Bellavista, the regional government of Callao, for the Saturday event. Screening took place for general medicine, nutrition, dentistry and other areas of care.

Puerto Rico: School Supplies Given to Puerto Rican Children in Time for School
Puerto Rican Latter-day Saints responded quickly to the need to help students get prepared for reading, writing and arithmetic.
Members of the Church in Ponce, the second largest city in Puerto Rico, located in the Southern Coastal Plain region, donated back-to-school supplies to students in several area communities with the participation of local government leaders.

Brazil: Brazil’s Needy Receive Wheelchairs

The mayor and the first lady of a São Paulo city celebrated delivery of 187 wheelchairs.
The wheelchairs project was an initiative between Humanitarian Services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the communities of Jundiaí, São Paulo and Lowland Jarinu, in the municipalities of the state of São Paulo. The city’s mayor and first lady were on hand for the emotional ceremony.
