Open House Announced for the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple

Dates also announced for the youth devotional and dedication

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the dates of the open house for the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple.

The public is invited to tour the temple from Saturday, March 26, 2022, through Saturday, April 16, 2022, except for March 27 and April 2, 3, and 10, 2022.

Also announced are the dates for the temple’s dedication and youth devotional.

Latter-day Saint youth will gather in a nearby Church meetinghouse for a devotional the evening prior to the dedication, on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

The Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple will be dedicated on Sunday, May 8, 2022, in three sessions, at 9 a.m., 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside at the dedication.

Both the youth devotional and temple dedicatory sessions will be broadcast to meetinghouses within the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple district.

The Rio de Janeiro Temple will be the eighth dedicated temple in Brazil, following the Recife, Porto Alegre, Campinas, São Paulo, Curitiba, Manaus and Fortaleza Brazil Temples. There are three other temples currently under construction in Belém, Brasília and Salvador, and three additional temples have been announced in Belo Horizonte, São Paulo East (the second in the city) and Vitória.

Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints differ from meetinghouses or chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. Each temple is considered a “house of the Lord” where Jesus Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed through sacred ceremonies such as marriages, which unite families forever, and proxy baptisms on behalf of deceased ancestors who did not have the opportunity to be baptized while living.
