Elder I. Raymond Egbo, General Authority Seventy, spoke to journalists about the blessings that the newly constructed house of the Lord will bring to Latter-day Saints and surrounding communities in the area.

It's going to bless the lives of those who live in the immediate surroundings,” he said. “But most importantly, it's going to draw this community closer to God. It's going to help them realize that God is the God of all people, and he's there for everyone, and he loves all people.”

President Domine Solesbee, the Yorba Linda Stake Relief Society President, explained the significance of temples for Latter-day Saints, and invited the public to attend the open house and learn about these sacred structures.

“To us, the temple is more than a beautiful building. It is a sacred space for us. It is a space where we can learn more of Jesus Christ. And also increase our commitment to follow him,” she said.

About the Yorba Linda California Temple

The temple features design elements that reflect the local landscape and communities, including palm leaves in exterior stone carvings and colors and patterns inspired by historic Spanish mission buildings.

California is home to nearly 730,000 Latter-day Saints who meet in over 1,000 congregations.

Once dedicated, the Yorba Linda California Temple will be the ninth house of the Lord in the state, joining the Feather River, Fresno, Los Angeles, Newport Beach, Oakland, Redlands and Sacramento California Temples. The San Diego California Temple will be rededicated on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

The Bakersfield, Modesto and Sunnyvale California Temples have been announced or are under construction. The Yorba Linda California Temple was announced during the April 2021 general conference.

In a recent general conference, President Dallin H. Oaks spoke about the purpose of constructing and worshipping in houses of the Lord.

“The doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints centers on the family. Essential to our doctrine on the family is the temple. The ordinances received there enable us to return as eternal families to the presence of our Heavenly Father,” he said.

Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints differ from meetinghouses or chapels, where members and friends of the Church meet for Sunday worship services. Each temple is considered a “house of the Lord,” where Jesus Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed so that families can be united for eternity. In the temple, Church members can seek peace and guidance, learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to follow Jesus Christ and serve their fellow men and women.
