When Joseph Smith went into a grove of trees, he knelt in prayer asking for forgiveness for his sins. His prayer was answered when Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared and spoke to him.

Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ also “through him restored the fulness of the gospel,” said President M. Russell Ballard, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, testifying of the First Vision in a Church News video titled “Our Message.”

In sharing the restored gospel, “what people feel in relationships is more important than what they hear or what we say in many cases,” President Ballard said.

He added: “And to me, it’s the most exciting story you can possibly talk about. I love to do it.”
