President Oaks Will Dedicate the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple

President Dallin H. Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will dedicate the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple on Sunday, August 16, 2026. The dedicatory session will begin at 10 a.m. local time and will be rebroadcast at 2 p.m. to congregations in the temple district.

This is the second temple President Oaks has dedicated this year. In January, he dedicated the Burley Idaho Temple.

The Belo Horizonte Temple will become the Church’s 12th dedicated temple in Brazil. The public was invited to tour the temple from June 13 through June 27, following media and invited guest tours held June 10–12. More than 1,300 opinion leaders, public officials and invited guests participated in the tours.

Located in the Engenho Nogueira neighborhood of Belo Horizonte, the temple’s architecture and interior design draw on cultural elements associated with Minas Gerais. Its stained glass windows feature shades of white, yellow and blue inspired by traditional Portuguese tilework found throughout the state.

President Russell M. Nelson announced the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple during the Church’s April 2021 general conference.

More than 1.5 million members of the Church live in Brazil and worship in more than 2,000 congregations.

Temples differ from the Church’s meetinghouses (chapels). All are welcome to attend Sunday worship services and other weekday activities at local meetinghouses. The primary purpose of temples is for faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ to participate in sacred ceremonies that help draw them closer to God and unite families through Jesus Christ.
