Public Invited to Tour the Managua Nicaragua Temple

This is the first house of the Lord in the country

The first temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nicaragua — the Managua Nicaragua Temple — opened its doors to journalists on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Elder Patricio M. Giuffra, President of the Central America Area, presided over the event. He was joined by Elder Taylor G. Godoy of the Temple Department Executive Committee.

“For thousands of Nicaraguans who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the completion of this temple represents much more than a historic event,” said Elder Giuffra. “It means having, in their own country, a house of the Lord, a sacred place where they can strengthen their faith and more frequently partake of the blessings received in the temple.”

“Temples are the most sacred places on earth,” said Elder Godoy. “They are literally the house of the Lord Jesus Christ, where we can make covenants to be closer to God and Jesus Christ.”

Following media day and tours for invited guests, a public open house will run from Thursday, September 10 through Saturday, September 26, 2026 (excluding Sundays).

Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will then dedicate the temple on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

Then-Church President Russell M. Nelson first announced plans to build the Managua Nicaragua Temple in April 2018. Ground was broken several years later.

Nicaragua is home to nearly 107,000 Latter-day Saints meeting in 109 congregations.
