About the Salt Lake Temple Celebration
For the first time since 1893, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will open the doors of the newly renovated Salt Lake Temple. The public is invited to experience the beauty of this sacred space from April 5, 2027, to October 1, 2027. Media days will be held March 5 and 6, 2027. See below for registration.
During the celebration, guests will also find opportunities to enjoy live music, exhibits and other events.

What is the difference between a temple and a chapel?
Temples are not places of Sunday worship for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They differ from the thousands of regular chapels or meetinghouses worldwide used for Sunday services.
Anyone may visit a Latter-day Saint meetinghouse and attend services to worship God in remembrance of the sacrifice and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Because temples are sacred houses of the Lord, dedicated to performing specific sacred ordinances, only members of the Church in good standing are allowed to enter a temple after it is dedicated.
Latter-day Saints worship in temples for several reasons: to feel God’s love and peace, to learn more about God’s plan for His children and the gospel of Jesus Christ, to make promises with God and with one’s spouse. They also participate in sacred ordinances that, through the power of Jesus Christ, allow families to be united in this life and the next.
