“We can build bridges of understanding and mutual respect that enrich our coexistence,” Elder Alonso told reporters. “San Luis Potosí joins a select group of cities around the world that are home to a temple of the Church of Jesus Christ, which we call the house of the Lord.”
Also participating in the news conference were Claudia Lorena Peralta, director of municipal tourism for San Luis Potosí; Constantino Méndez, the city’s coordinator of religious affairs; Consuelo Enríquez, a representative of neighboring residents; Pastor David Medina, president of the Interfaith Council of San Luis Potosí; Andrea Giselle Valtierra, a local young adult member of the Church; and Fernando Hernández, president of the temple open house committee.
Enríquez highlighted the positive influence the temple will have on the community.
“One of the most important aspects of this temple’s presence in our city is the opportunity to strengthen values that we can all recognize, regardless of our beliefs: respect, family, solidarity, service and the desire to help others,” she said.

Peralta noted that San Luis Potosí is part of a network of cities recognized for their religious architecture and said the new temple joins a collection of sacred landmarks that reflect the city’s spiritual heritage.
The temple is a single-story building of approximately 9,300 square feet, constructed on a 3.87-acre site.
The San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple is one of 27 temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in operation, under construction or announced in Mexico. Following the open house, Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple on November 1, 2026.
The temple was announced by then-Church President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2022 general conference. Construction began in March 2024.
