October 2026 General Conference

Sunday Morning Session Summary for the October 2026 General Conference

A central theme of the Sunday morning session of the 196th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was about turning to Jesus Christ for peace and comfort amidst our trials and shortcomings.

“We all have present or future concerns or struggles we are trying to overcome,” said President Dallin H. Oaks during his closing remarks. “Those may include questions or doubts. Whatever they are, the way to overcome them is to get closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ.”

He continued, “Again and again, He has taught us that He is the way. Focus on developing your faith in God and the mission of His Son, Jesus Christ. Strong faith requires more than strong desire. It means daily trying, one step at a time, with prayer and scriptural learning.”

President Oaks also invited all people to believe the Book of Mormon promise that Jesus Christ will manifest “himself unto all those who believe in him, by the power of the Holy Ghost.”

“As declared on its title page, the Book of Mormon has come forth that we ‘may know of the covenants of the Lord,’ and also for the convincing of all ‘that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations,’” he said. “I call upon all to act on these truths and to share them with others that we may all draw closer to Jesus Christ our Savior.”

President Henry B. Eyring, First Counselor in the First Presidency, opened the session talking about how we can aid our friends and loved ones during their trials, thereby helping the Savior love and comfort His children.

“The Lord will comfort all of those who try to follow Him,” he said. “And He offers us the great blessing and trust to help Him keep His promise to succor Father’s children in their tests along their mortal journey home.”

Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke about the spiritual courage it takes to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.

“I promise you that as you strengthen your faith in Jesus Christ by believing and following Him, and keeping His commandments, your answers will come, your spiritual power will increase and your courage in following Christ will define your eternal soul,” he said.

Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles counseled about how disciples of Jesus Christ should act and behave.

“Lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ best reflect the Savior’s teaching and direction when they joyfully live lives of integrity and virtue,” he said. “The covenant path that will return us to our beloved Father in Heaven, and His Son, Jesus Christ, is not obscure; it is well marked. We have been repeatedly taught the principles and covenants essential for this sacred path.”

Elder Edward Dube of the Presidency of the Seventy testified of Christ’s power to change, adding that “we do not need to perfect ourselves to come to Christ. We come to Christ to be perfected.”

Primary General President Rosemary K. Chibota instructed attendees about seeing others the way Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ see them.

“Your Heavenly Father sees you. Your Savior Jesus Christ sees you. They know your name, your circumstances, your gifts and your divine potential,” she said. “As we learn to see ourselves and one another as They do, our homes, wards, schools, and communities will become places of belonging, healing and love.”

Elder James O. Fantone and Elder Ciro Schmeil, General Authority Seventies, invited all to become more like the Savior by making and keeping covenants and serving others.

“When we genuinely take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ by losing ourselves in the service of others, something miraculous happens,” said Elder Fantone.

“Heavenly Father is not asking us to physically build the temple, but He is asking us to build a strong relationship with Him and His Son, Jesus Christ, through our covenants,” said Elder Schmeil. “He will magnify our efforts as we consider our ways and make the proper adjustments to make and keep covenants with Him.”

Elder Alfred Kyungu, a General Authority Seventy, echoed Elder Cook’s counsel about how we should conduct ourselves as disciples of Jesus Christ when he said, “Let us fill our hearts with the true doctrine of Christ, which has the power to change our language and help us speak more as peacemakers today, tomorrow and always.”
