In the coming weeks, “Jesus Christ With Mary and Martha” and “Jesus Christ Blessing the Children” will be added, bringing the total number of newly installed sculptures at Temple Square to 12. They join the recently restored Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthood statues and the Seagull Monument.
Set among newly restored gardens, gathering spaces and the Temple Square Visitors’ Center, the artwork is part of a renewed experience that invites people of every faith and background to learn about Jesus Christ and find moments of peace, reflection and inspiration.
Prepare for the Celebration
The Salt Lake Temple has stood as a symbol of faith for more than a century. Construction began in 1853 and took 40 years to complete, with the temple dedicated in 1893. Following its current renovation, the Salt Lake Temple will welcome the public during only the second open house in its 134-year history, offering a rare opportunity to experience the interior of the temple before it is rededicated.
