Youth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints around the world met on Sunday, August 30, to learn about their new class meeting schedule and curriculum, part of changes that go into effect in the worldwide Church on September 6.

Beginning September 6, Church members will return to meeting weekly for all of their Sunday classes, rather than attending Sunday School and their quorum and class lessons on alternating weeks. Sundays now will include attending both a 25-minute Sunday School class as well as a 25-minute Relief Society, elders quorum, Young Women or Aaronic Priesthood quorum meeting.

Youth, Primary children turning 12 in 2027, parents and youth leaders gathered in their congregations during class time on August 30 to watch the instructional video “For the Strength of Youth Curriculum.”

The new youth curriculum for young women classes and Aaronic Priesthood Quorums is based on the updated 12-part “For the Strength of Youth” guide.

They also discussed:

  • How will we be blessed by the updated FSY guide and the new Sunday curriculum?
  • As we follow the pattern in Doctrine and Covenants 88:122, how can we let the Holy Ghost guide what we say and how we listen so everyone feels uplifted?
  • How will this new weekly schedule give us more opportunities to build strong relationships?

Youth can prepare for Young Women classes and Aaronic Priesthood quorum meetings by studying that month’s chapter in the “For the Strength of Youth” guide and the supplemental weekly materials in “For the Strength of Youth” magazine, and bring the guide with them to Sunday's class.

In the video, Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman says, “Now is an exciting time to be a young woman or young man in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where we are learning how to walk with the Savior daily.” She adds, “This guide will help you become a lifelong disciple, with a bedrock understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

These resources are easily found in the Gospel Library app as FSY Sunday Lessons. This feature has quick links to the corresponding monthly chapters of the “For the Strength of Youth” guide and the supporting “For the Strength of Youth” magazine articles that provide a deeper study of doctrinal topics for each week.

Printed copies of the guide were sent to wards and branches, and each household can subscribe to one free copy of the magazine.

On Sunday, September 6, youth and adults will attend 25-minute Sunday School classes, where they will view two videos: “Sunday School” and “The Sabbath and Sacrament Meeting.”

The instructional video about Sunday School explains that this time on Sundays is meant to support what’s happening at home. “As we prepare each week by studying the scriptures at home and using the ‘Come, Follow Me’ resource, we can learn with the Spirit guiding the conversation at church,” the video states.

Youth can prepare for Sunday School by studying the chapters of scripture for that week’s “Come, Follow Me” lesson. The Come, Follow Me card on the Home screen of the Gospel Library app links directly to the current lesson in the “Come, Follow Me” manual. Simply open the Gospel Library app, tap on the card and go right to that week’s study guide.
