Plans to construct the temple were announced 30 September 1995, Church leaders broke ground 10 January 1999, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Caracas Venezuela Temple 20 August 2000. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Venezuela, Trinidad and Tabago.

The exterior of the 15,332-square-foot temple is granite.

Currently, there are over 50 temples in various stages of construction, renovation or have been announced throughout the world.
