Plans to construct the temple were announced 4 October 1997, Church leaders broke ground 7 March 1998, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Colonia Juárez Chihuahua México Temple 6 March 1999. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Colonia Juárez, Chihuahua, México.

The exterior of the 6,800-square-foot temple is white marble.

Currently, there are 30 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
