Plans to construct the temple were announced 20 July 1998, Church leaders broke ground 5 December 1998, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Hermosillo Sonora Mexico Temple 27 February 2000. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Hermosillo.

The 10,700-square-foot temple’s exterior is white marble veneer.

Currently, there are 30 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
