Plans to construct the temple were announced 3 October 1992, Church leaders broke ground 22 January 1994, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Hong Kong China Temple 26 May 1996. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in China, Singapore and Mongolia.

The 21,744-square-foot temple’s exterior is polished granite.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
