    Plans to construct the temple were announced 3 October 1915, Church leaders broke ground 1 June 1915, and Heber J. Grant, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1918 to 1945, dedicated the Laie Hawaii Temple 27 November 1919. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Hawaii and the Marshall Islands. Since the first dedication, the temple has been renovated twice. It was rededicated by President Spencer W. Kimball 13 June 1978 and by President Thomas S. Monson 21 November 2010.

      The 47,224-square-foot temple’s exterior is concrete made of crushed lava rock from the area and tooled to a white cream finish.

      Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
