Plans to construct the temple were announced 1 April 1981, Church leaders broke ground 11 September 1982, and President Gordon B. Hinckley, then a member of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Lima Peru Temple 10 January 1986. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Peru.

The 9,600-square-foot temple’s exterior is local granite.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
