Plans to construct the temple were announced 21 December 1995, Church leaders broke ground 4 November 2000, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Monterrey Mexico Temple 28 April 2002. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Monterrey and north central Mexico.

The 16,017-square-foot temple’s exterior is white marble.

Currently, there are 30 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
