Plans to construct the temple were announced 21 April 2001, Church leaders broke ground 1 December 2001, and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Redlands California Temple 14 September 2003. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

The 17,279-square-foot temple’s exterior is light gray granite.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
