Plans to construct the temple were announced 7 April 1984, Church leaders broke ground 10 October 1987, and President Gordon B. Hinckley, then a counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Toronto Ontario Temple 25 August 1990. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Ontario.

The 57,982-square-foot temple’s exterior is white cast stone.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
