    Plans to construct the temple were announced 25 February 1999, Church leaders broke ground 20 March 1999, and President James E. Faust, then second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Tuxtla Gutiérrez Mexico Temple 12 March 2000. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Chiapas, near the border of Guatemala.

      The 10,700-square-foot temple’s exterior is white marble.
