Mission President Passes Away in France

President Jason Michael Soulier was from the Salt Lake East Mill Creek Stake

Church spokesman Sam Penrod released the following statement on Saturday, December 28, 2024, about the unexpected passing of a mission president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lyon, France.

We are saddened to announce that President Jason Michael Soulier, serving in the France Lyon Mission, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Saturday, December 28, 2024. While President Soulier had been feeling ill for a few days preceding his death, an official cause of death is still to be determined.

President Soulier, 54, began his service as a mission president in June 2024. He was from the Salt Lake East Mill Creek Stake. President Soulier is survived by his wife and mission companion, Sister Jennifer H. Soulier, along with their four adult children. We express our love and deepest sympathies to President Soulier’s family and all the missionaries in the France Lyon Mission during this difficult time. We pray all will feel the Savior’s love as they honor and remember President Soulier’s faithful service.

Elder James W. McConkie III, second counselor in the Europe Central Area Presidency, and his wife, Laurel, are traveling to Lyon to support Sister Soulier and provide temporary leadership of the mission, including the approximately 200 full-time missionaries currently serving.
