176th Semiannual General Conference Concludes

The 176th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints concluded Sunday afternoon.

President Hinckley closed the conference by leaving his blessing on the members of the Church. He said, “May the Spirit of Lord dwell in your homes. May love govern your family relations.”

Over 100,000 people attended sessions at the Conference Center near Temple Square in Salt Lake City, with millions more watching worldwide. The talks were translated into 85 languages.

Highlights

  • On Saturday, President Gordon B. Hinckley reported on Church progress. He indicated that there are now 6,066 Church-owned satellite receiving sites in 83 countries. This is compared to the 300 in 1982.
  • During President Hinckley’s Sunday address, he reported his health was good after he underwent a surgical procedure earlier this year to remove a cancerous growth in his large intestine.
  • This year marks the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the handcart pioneers to the Salt Lake Valley.
