    The temple was announced 16 February 1998, Church leaders broke ground 16 November 2001 and Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Accra Ghana Temple 11 January 2004. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in West Africa, including the areas of Benin, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Togo.

      The exterior of the 17,500-square-foot temple is Namibian pearl granite. Landscaping includes native flowers and palm trees.
