The original Apia Samoa Temple was dedicated in 1983 by President Gordon B. Hinckley, then a counselor in the First Presidency of the Church. Church leaders broke ground 19 October 2003 for the new temple, and President Hinckley, leader of the Church from 1995 to 2008, dedicated the Apia Samoa Temple 4 September 2005. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Samoa and American Samoa

The new temple increased in size from 14,560 square feet to 18,691 square feet. The temple’s exterior is granite.

Currently, there are over 50 temples in various stages of construction, renovation or have been announced throughout the world.
