Bishop H. David Burton to be Honored by Salt Lake Chamber

The Salt Lake Chamber announced today that Bishop H. David Burton, the presiding bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be honored as “A Giant In Our City.” The award, which is given by the Salt Lake Chamber, will be officially presented to Bishop Burton 16 March 2011 at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City.

“Bishop Burton lives to serve, to uplift and to build,” said Lane Beattie, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. “As the presiding bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he has administered care for those in need. As a passionate supporter of the arts community, he has helped enrich the lives of thousands of Utahns. And as a businessman he has overseen the unprecedented investment in our capital city at the City Creek Center. He is truly a Giant In Our City.”

H. David Burton has served as presiding bishop of the Church since 1996. He is the 31st recipient of the Giant In Our City award.

The Salt Lake Chamber Board of Governors established the Giant in Our City award in 1969. The award was created to honor exceptional and distinguished public service and extraordinary professional achievement. It is considered the chamber’s most prestigious award and is given periodically by the Chamber Board of Governors.
