Plans to construct the temple were announced 3 October 2009; Church leaders broke ground 31 July 2010, presided over by Boyd K. Packer, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The angel Moroni was placed on top of the temple 12 July 2011. President Packer dedicated the temple 23 September 2012.

The exterior of the 36,000-square-foot temple is precast concrete with art-glass peach blossoms on the second floor windows, and the landscape includes 26 fruit trees.

Currently, there are over 50 temples in various stages of construction, renovation or have been announced throughout the world.
