Calgary Alberta Temple to be Dedicated After 100,000+ Take Public Tours

Sunday, 28 October, the newly constructed Calgary Alberta Temple will be the 140th temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be dedicated.

President Thomas S. Monson will offer the dedicatory prayer after the ceremonial setting of the cornerstone.

Prior to this special weekend for Latter-day Saints, more than 100,000 people enjoyed tours inside the temple as part of a public open house. The Boise Idaho Temple is one of the renovated temples currently open to the public before its rededication 18 November. To date, more than 60,000 people have gone through.

The Calgary and Boise Temples are among seven new and renovated temples over the past year that nearly one million people of all faiths and walks of life have toured to learn about worship inside Mormon temples [link to temple pkg].

Once temples like the Calgary Alberta Temple and the Boise Idaho Temple are formally dedicated, only devout Mormons may enter. (See a Mormon Newsroom article explaining the difference between the Church’s chapels and temples.)

Latter-day Saint temples differ from the chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. Temples are considered “houses of the Lord” where the teachings of Jesus Christ are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity.
