The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Cincinnati Pops made history Friday when they performed together for the first time. It was a concert that choir director Craig Jessop considered “long overdue.”
“It is a huge honor,” Jessop told choir members before leaving Salt Lake City, “to have the opportunity to share the stage with such a renowned organization.”
Jessop shared the conductor’s podium with the Cincinnati Pops maestro Erich Kunzel, alternating turns with the baton.
Cincinnati was concert number seven of the summer 2007 choir tour.
The choir wrapped up the tour with performances in Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee.
Some choir members and their spouses have recounted their tour experiences in their “On the Road in 2007” online journal. Articles include:
- “Toronto,” Carol Salmon, alto
- “Chautauqua: Joyous Reunion,” Andrew Schow, bass
- “Cleveland: Bringing Tears of Joy to Many Eyes and Warmth to Many Hearts,” Robb Cundick, second tenor
- “Chicago: No Cicadas, Only Beautiful Music and Record Crowds,” Bonita Cross, first alto
- “Cincinnati,” Beth Breinholt, first alto
