When Typhoon Haiyan struck the central Philippine islands on 8 November, more than 10,000 Filipinos sought refuge with 4,000 of their Mormon neighbors in 200 chapels of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Even though several meetinghouses were damaged, all inside were protected. The video below shows how these sturdy structures now shelter hundreds of displaced families while also providing humanitarian support to those in need in dozens of ravaged communities.

More than 14,000 members and friends of the Church sought shelter in 200 chapels in the central Philippine islands when Typhoon Haiyan struck with winds near 200 mph on 8 November 2013. While many buildings were damaged, all inside were protected. This is the Ormoc chapel on the west side of the Leyte province. It was not impacted by the storm surge yet experienced wind damage.
