Shortly after the deadly Category 4 storms made landfall in November 2020, members of the global faith have since worked with Central American government and community leaders to provide humanitarian aid to the country’s hurricanes’ survivors.
The mayor of San Pedro Sula, Armando Calidonio Alvarado, and local Church leader Elder José Bernardo Hernández, participated in the delivery ceremony.
“In our effort to follow the Savior’s example to help those in need, we give this abundant donation of food and clothes to help our brothers and sisters from the northern area of this city,” said Elder Hernández.
“I want to express thanks for this act of solidarity,” said Mayor Calidonio Alvarado. “This great gift for the people that are in most need is very important for our city. We know of the Church’s great spirit to help their neighbor. Thank you for thinking of San Pedro Sula and for heeding our call.”
Honduras was one of the countries hit hardest by Hurricanes Eta and Iota in November 2020 when heavy rainfall caused floods and landslides.
As a result, thousands of Honduran residents were impacted.
“This morning we are making this food donation, and we know that the northern area has also been affected because of the pandemic,” said Elder Hernández.
