Elder Maynes Called to Serve in the Presidency of the Seventy

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) announced that Elder Richard J. Maynes of the Quorum of the Seventy has been called to serve in the Presidency of the Seventy.

Elder Maynes will fill the vacancy created by Elder Steven E. Snow, who is now the Church Historian. In this new calling, Elder Maynes will assist his fellow members of the Presidency of the Seventy in testifying of Jesus Christ and helping supervise priesthood leadership throughout the United States and Canada.

“We commend these Brethren on their faithful and devoted service and look forward to working with them in their new responsibilities,” the First Presidency said in a letter addressed to the Church’s General Authorities.

At the time of the call, Elder Maynes was serving as the Executive Director of the Family History Department for the Church. He has previously served as a member of the Philippines Area Presidency and as second counselor in the Sunday School general presidency. He was sustained 31 March 2001 as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
