Elder Ronald A. Rasband Ministers in South America Northwest Area

The Apostle meets with Latter-day Saints in Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela

Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles recently completed a ministry tour in the South America Northwest Area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, meeting with Saints in Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela May 26 through June 2, 2024.

Elder Paul V. Johnson of the Presidency of the Seventy, and his wife, Jill, accompanied Elder Rasband.

Bolivia

Elder Rasband met with stake leaders, mission presidents and temple presidents for a training meeting on Saturday, May 25, in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Members of the South America Northwest Area Presidency, Elder Jorge F. Zeballos, President; Elder Jorge T. Becerra, First Counselor, and Elder Rafael Pino, Second Counselor, also attended and participated in the training.

Peru

On Sunday morning, May 26, he met with Church leaders, mission presidents and temple presidents in Peru at the Limatambo chapel in Lima. That afternoon, he met with young adults in the La Molina chapel for a devotional that was broadcast to young adults throughout Peru and Bolivia, who participated remotely.

During the devotional, Elder Rasband reminded young adults of Church President Russell M. Nelson’s invitation to “think celestial” and conveyed a message from the Prophet that “we love them, we’re grateful for them and we need them.” Elder Rasband invited young adults to “take control of their cell phones, and maintain the vision of Jesus Christ.”

In an historic meeting on Tuesday, May 28, Elder Rasband addressed more than 1,000 missionaries serving in the six missions of Lima and at the Lima Mission Training Center.

Ecuador

Having finished his day in Peru, Elder Rasband traveled to Ecuador, where he presided over a devotional and a training meeting for Church leaders on Wednesday, May 29. During the evening devotional for future senior missionary couples, Elder Rasband conveyed President Nelson’s greeting and invited senior couples to serve a full-time mission. Elder Zeballos announced a pilot program for the area that will allow more couples to serve a mission.

Colombia and Venezuela

On Sunday, June 2, Elder Rasband held training meetings with Church leaders in Colombia and Venezuela, which concluded his ministry tour of the area.
